Hammers for the Major Shredder Lines

Lindemann, TexasShredder and Newell account for a large share of the auto and scrap shredders operating worldwide. Lindemann ZZ series and TexasShredder PS series machines are both now within the Metso recycling range, while Newell machines remain in service across many yards long after original support has thinned.

We manufacture hammers as compatible replacements for these machines. Brand and model names are used only to identify machine fitment and imply no affiliation with, or endorsement by, any manufacturer.

Shredder Models We Supply Hammers For

Shredder Series / Type Typical Duty Usual Grade
Lindemann ZZ series Auto and scrap shredding Mn18Cr2 / alloy
Lindemann Earlier ZZ machines Auto and scrap shredding Mn13Cr2 / Mn18Cr2
TexasShredder PS series Auto shredding, heavy duty Mn18Cr2 / alloy
TexasShredder Earlier machines Auto and scrap shredding Mn13Cr2
Newell Full range Scrap and auto shredding Mn13Cr2 / Mn18Cr2

Grades shown are the designations commonly specified for this duty. The exact grade for your order is confirmed against your feed and how the last set of hammers failed.

Send the machine make, model and rotor size, along with a drawing or a worn hammer, and fitment is confirmed before quoting.

Hammer Styles

Shredder hammers are not one shape. The style in use affects both the wear pattern and the energy delivered per strike, so it is worth stating which you run:

Where you are unsure which style is fitted, a photograph of a worn hammer beside a tape measure is usually enough to identify it.

Material Grades for Shredder Hammers

High manganese steel is the standard answer for shredder duty because it work hardens at the struck surface under impact while the core stays tough and ductile. The common designations are:

Increasing hardness always trades away some toughness. If your hammers are breaking, the answer is more manganese, not less; if they are wearing round while staying intact, there is room to go harder. Our guide to reading hammer wear before you reorder covers how to tell which.

Other Shredder Wear Parts

Hammers are the most frequently replaced part, but rarely the only one due at a shutdown. We also manufacture pin protectors, grates, liners, anvils and breaker bars – see our shredder wear parts range.

Ordering the surrounding parts in the same batch is usually worth doing. Worn grates and seating change how hammers wear, so replacing hammers alone can shorten the life of the new set.

Identifying Your Hammer

Fitment is confirmed from any one of the following:

Eye dimensions matter as much as the outside profile. Where pins or pin holes have worn, the hammer that fits the machine today is not always the one the original drawing describes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these genuine Lindemann, TexasShredder or Newell parts?

No. These are compatible replacement hammers manufactured by Melco Precisions Pvt Ltd. Lindemann, TexasShredder and Newell are trademarks of their respective owners and are used here only to identify machine fitment. There is no affiliation with or endorsement by any manufacturer.

Which grade suits a Lindemann ZZ on mixed auto scrap?

High manganese, typically an Mn18Cr2 type designation, is the usual specification for auto shredding because engine blocks and compressed bales demand toughness above all. Where the face is wearing round rather than cracking, an alloy or dual hardness construction is worth discussing.

Our hammers are elongating at the eye before the face wears out. What changes?

That is often not a grade problem. Check pin condition, pin material and rotor tolerance first, because a metallurgy change will not correct bearing stress at the pin.

Our machine is old and OEM support has ended. Can you still supply?

Usually yes. A worn hammer is normally enough to develop the pattern, and this is how most parts for older shredders get made. Pattern cost, where any applies, is confirmed with the quotation.

Can you match hammer weight to our existing set?

Yes, and it matters. Rotor balance and the energy delivered per strike both depend on hammer mass, so send the weight of your current hammer with the enquiry.

Do you export shredder hammers?

Yes. We supply shredder operators directly and also distributors and importers reselling into their own markets, with shipments to the USA, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
