These names cover a wide span of scrap processing. Wendt supplies complete shredding systems and downstream separation, Shred-Tech builds shredding equipment used across metal and mixed-waste recycling, and Metso, Riverside, Harris and Danieli each supply shredding plant into auto and heavy scrap lines.
What they share, from a wear parts point of view, is that the hammers are frequently specified by the operator rather than taken from a catalogue, because feed varies so much between yards running nominally similar machines. We manufacture hammers as compatible replacements, cast to your drawings or from a worn sample. Brand names identify machine fitment only.
| Shredder | Equipment Type | Typical Duty | Usual Grade |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wendt | Shredding systems | Scrap and auto shredding | Mn18Cr2 / Mn13Cr2 |
| Shred-Tech | Shredding equipment | Metal and mixed waste recycling | Mn13Cr2 / MnMo0.5 |
| Metso | Shredding systems | Auto and scrap shredding | Mn18Cr2 / Mn20Cr2 |
| Riverside | Shredders | Scrap shredding | Mn13Cr2 / Mn18Cr2 |
| Harris | Shredders and balers | Mixed scrap processing | Mn13Cr2 / Mn18Cr2 |
| Danieli | Shredding plant | Auto and heavy scrap shredding | Mn18Cr2 / Mn24Cr2 |
Grades shown are the designations commonly specified for this duty. The exact grade for your order is confirmed against your feed and how the last set failed.
Send the machine make, model and rotor size with a drawing or worn hammer, and fitment is confirmed before quoting.
Across these systems, two yards running the same equipment can report wear life that differs by half, and the machine is rarely the reason. What the yard takes in decides it.
A line running mostly light iron, sheet and white goods works the hammers very differently from one taking whole car bodies and compressed bales. The lighter feed wears the striking face steadily with little shock; the heavier feed delivers occasional very high impact loads that end hammers by fracture instead. Specifying for the wrong one of these produces exactly the failure the operator was trying to avoid.
So the useful information with an enquiry is not only the machine model but what actually goes through it, and how the last set came out.
Where you are unsure which style is fitted, a photograph of a worn hammer beside a tape measure is normally enough to identify it.
Every grade choice accepts one failure mode in order to push back another. Our guide to reading hammer wear before you reorder explains how to work out which trade you should be making.
Hammers wear fastest, but they do not wear in isolation. Grates, liners, pin protectors and anvils all shape how the hammers work, and fitting a new set of hammers into worn surroundings shortens the life of the new set.
Where a shutdown is planned, it is usually worth quoting the surrounding parts at the same time. See our shredder wear parts range for grates, liners, pin protectors, anvils and breaker bars.

No. These are compatible replacement hammers manufactured by Melco Precisions Pvt Ltd. Wendt, Shred-Tech, Metso, Riverside, Harris and Danieli are trademarks of their respective owners, used here only to identify machine fitment. There is no affiliation with or endorsement by any manufacturer.
Often yes. Light, low-density feed wears the striking face steadily with little shock, so the limiting factor is abrasion rather than impact. That allows a harder specification than a line taking whole car bodies could safely run.
Almost always the feed. Wear life is set by what goes through the chamber far more than by the machine badge, which is why comparing your figures against another operator is less useful than comparing against your own history.
Yes, and it matters. Rotor balance and the energy delivered per strike both depend on hammer mass, so send the weight of your existing hammer with the enquiry.
Yes. Grates, liners, pin protectors, anvils and breaker bars are all manufactured alongside hammers, and quoting them together for a planned shutdown usually gives the new hammers a longer life.
Most new supply relationships begin with a trial set so fitment and wear performance can be verified before committing to volume.
Send your machine model, a drawing or photographs of a worn part. Our team confirms fitment and recommends the grade before quoting – usually within one working day.
